Session Description:

We often bemoan the "fact" that kids just won't make healthy choices. But don't despair. Because, in truth, Child Nutrition programs and employees have a tremendous, largely untapped power to encourage kids in the direction of the foods we'd like to see them eat. How? Why, with a little NUDGE!

Nudge marketing encompasses the ways we present various options and communicate with our customers to have a significant impact on the choices they make and the foods they eat. We’ll use the roll-out of the New Lunch and Breakfast Regs over the last several school years as a particularly relevant case study for how we can use effective messaging to “nudge” customers in the directions we want them to go.

Session Objectives:

Participants will be introduced to the hot concept of "NUDGE" marketing -- using verbal, visual, and physical techniques to give customers a subtle push toward particular choices.

Participants will learn how product accessibility, arrangement, presentation, and visibility -- so-called "choice architecture" -- influences customers' choices, as well as how color, graphics, and messaging can help move customers in a particular direction.

We'll use the example of the on-going implementation of the New Regs to demonstrate how "NUDGE" marketing can subtly help to push customers and their parents toward the healthier choices we're offering.
