Session Description:

Attracting -- and retaining -- good employees has become one of the key managerial challenges facing many child nutrition directors today. You certainly don't want to throw just anybody in there -- you know that a desperation hire could wind up costing you plenty in lessened productivity and decreased customer satisfaction. You want good people. And you want them yesterday. This session aims to give you some new ammunition in the fight for those prime employees. We'll begin by examining employment trends in the foodservice industry overall, to better understand the market forces that drive people toward -- and away from -- your jobs. We'll view videotape of focus groups conducted among current front-line school food service staff, to better understand how they found their jobs and why they stay. And we'll examine some innovative and non-traditional ways to get good folks to come to you. Finding the keepers will always be a challenge in our business, but it doesn't have to be a losing battle -- not if you meet the challenge armed with the best tools and information!
