Price Increase Talking
Points
This page contains materials to help our Menu Magic subscribers explain
the mandated price increase to their board, the press, or other interested parties. Using these
talking points, etc., we hope that you'll be able not only to explain the increase, but also to help
leave your audiences with a positive view of the impact of the change.
Please let us know if there's anything we left out or should have addressed differently.
We will add to and/or revise these materials over the next few weeks.
Please let us know if these materials are helpful and what else you need. We will try to
respond as quickly as possible.
Please keep in mind that the materials will not be exactly right for your specific local situation.
Revise and edit as necessary.
Please check back here for our additions/revisions; we may not be able to
send an email blast for every change. We will note next to the links if changes have been
posted.
If you have to raise prices, our best public relations advice at
this point is to try to not be too defensive or apologetic about it, but rather to use this as an
opportunity to let your communities know that the increase will help you make your offerings a
healthy as possible for your customers.
Thanks,
John Bennett

Use this editable Word document version of
your points for distribution. If a reporter (or your board or your boss or whoever) talks to
you over the phone, you may not get the opportunity to use the talking points fully in your
response. Follow up with this document to make sure they know your full position. Attach
this editable Word document version of your points to an email to anyone who asks you for a
statement about the increase – that way a reporter can cut and paste your exact words, if
they’re so inclined. In the subject line, write "Further thoughts on the price increase request,"
and in the body of the email write something like, "Hi, ______. I thought you might like to see a
summary of the points I’m going to make to the board about the required price increase. Please
let me know if you have any other questions.” Be sure to revise and read the file over to
make sure it sounds right to you for your situation (or call us for help), and
Be sure to send it as a fresh new email, without any other
correspondence below!
And attach a read-receipt.
